Andrew J. Cavazos is a Partner at Poulos & Coates LLP, where he primarily represents plaintiffs in complex medical malpractice litigation. He practices throughout the entire States of New Mexico and Texas.

Andrew previously worked at several personal injury firms, where he specialized in wrongful death, catastrophic injury, commercial motor vehicle collision, and workplace accident litigation. He has extensive experience in all facets of the litigation and appeals processes, personally handling over a dozen trials and appeals throughout his career. 

After becoming a licensed attorney, Andrew quickly garnered respect among his peers as a top civil litigator. He has been selected by the National Trial Lawyers as a “Top 40 under 40” civil plaintiffs attorney (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), and has also been selected as a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023), which is a designation reserved for the top 2.5% of attorneys 40 years old and under. In 2021, the El Paso Young Lawyers Association and El Paso Bar Association further honored Andrew as their “Most Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year”. 

In 2018, Andrew was selected by the State Bar of Texas to be a student of the prestigious LeadershipSBOT Academy, which is an honor bestowed upon approximately twenty lawyers per year, for purposes of fostering them as future leaders in the legal community. After graduating from LeadershipSBOT, Andrew was selected by the State Bar of Texas to serve on the committee that crafts the Texas Pattern Jury Charge for Products Liability and Medical Malpractice, where he served from 2018 to 2023. 

In 2022, Andrew was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Texas Young Lawyers Association, where he regularly works on statewide initiatives aimed at progressing the legal profession. In 2023, Andrew also began proudly serving as the Region 4 Director for the State Bar of New Mexico Young Lawyers Division, and was a Founding Board Member of the Southern New Mexico Bar Association, where he works on similar legal initiatives throughout the entire State of New Mexico. 

During his career, Andrew has also served his local communities in several positions. From 2017 to present, Andrew has served the El Paso Young Lawyers Association as a Board Member (2018, 2022), a President-Elect (2019-2020), and its President (2020-2021). Andrew has further served as an ex officio Board Member for the El Paso Bar Association (2020, 2023), and is an active member of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association and Texas Trial Lawyers Association. 

Andrew previously attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he studied political sciences and business administration. He later attended Texas Tech University School of Law, where he served as President of the Hispanic Law Students Association, Director of Communications for the Board of Barristers, a dean-appointed Student Ambassador, a Student Bar Association officer, the American Bar Association schoolwide representative, and a dean-appointed student representative on the Dean’s Committees for Academic Advancement and Diversity.
